Michael Clarke Duncan (December 10, 1957 – September 3, 2012) was an American actor, best known for his role as John Coffey in The Green Mile. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and was 6 feet 5 inches (196 cm) tall. Duncan weighed 315 pounds (142 kg). He always wanted to act. In 1998, Duncan was cast as Bear in the film Armageddon. He struck up a friendship with cast-mate Bruce Willis that helped him to get his breakout role as John Coffey in The Green Mile.
On July 13 he suffered a myocardial infarction and never fully recovered. On September 3, 2012 he died.
