Critical path analysis

A form of operational research in which a project is represented by a diagram containing a time schedule for each of the different parts of the project. The 'critical path' through the diagram is then the arrangement of jobs on the project which will result in the project taking the shortest amount of time, and therefore incurring the least cost. This is a particularly important technique in the planning of large construction projects such as roads and bridges.
